Collaboration & Performance
I met Kei Takei in 1984, in Los Angeles when she was on tour with her company, The Moving Earth. Several months later, she invited me to join her in New York to begin work on a new dance piece, Light #18, (Wheat Field). This was followed a year later with Light #21, at which time I had already moved to New York. The set for Light #18, was designed for the dancers to build and manipulate on stage as part of the performance. For Light #21, I was asked to join the performance for the duration of the run, and open the large umbrella/flowers as the dance was performed. I have also added one photo from Into The Woods, depicting a flock of birds created for the actor to wear while walking across the stage. It was made from an old baseball batting helmet, wire and shaped wooden birds.
